The Washington Post All-Met section was recently announced and Sophie Duncan was awarded 2nd Team Honors for Girls Swimming. Being one of only two freshman to be named to The Post’s 1st or 2nd Team, Sophie had an impressive inaugural season at The Holton-Arms School in Bethesda. Her selection was likely based on her ability to help across the entire event lineup. Over the course of the season Sophie garnered All-American Consideration times in 500 Free (4:55.31), 200 Free (1:50.63), and 200 IM (2:02.68) and contributing on both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays en route to the teams undefeated season and 2019 Metro Champions.
All three of those times are team records for Sea Devils and she also added another in the 100 Back (56.85). Sophe is back in the water training at our Wilson site Gold group getting ready for Sectionals.
Way to go, Sophie!
At the conclusion of the high school season the DCIAA (DC Public School League) awarded our very own Thomas Scheller as their Male Swimmer of the Year. The award is voted on by coaches and given out to the most deserving male and female swimmer each season. Thomas is a junior at Woodrow Wilson High School where he also serves as assistant coach for the swim team. In addition to his swimmer of the year honors, Thomas was named All League after winning the 100 Butterfly and 100 Breaststroke at the DCIAA Championships. For Sea Devils, Thomas trains in the Senior Program at our Wilson site under coaches Ian Handerhan and Sam Brownell.
